The main function of a Ceiling Joist is to provide the structural grid onto which the ceiling is fixed.The Ceiling could be of POP, Gypsum, and Wood etc.
The grid of the Ceiling joists is laid only after the walls are constructed. They run parallel to the walls and are fixed to the true ceiling with suspenders.
Ceiling Joists carry the dead load of the false ceiling and other interior finishes which also provide insulation. Once the Ceiling Joist framing is done the ceiling can be fixed onto it.
