Arabtec Construction has emerged as the winner from a group of local and international companies competing to build the national pavilion at Expo 2020 Dubai. The announcement was done by the National Media Council, the government body based in Abu Dhabi and responsible for building and operating the pavilion. There were nine companies to submit the bids which reduced to four in the end. Spanish based architect Santiago Calatrava would be leading a team of designers to design the same. The theme is going to be centred on sustainability while the design is inspired from a ‘falcon in flight’. The UAE Pavilion is centrally located on the 4.38 sq km exhibition area, opposite to the Al Wasl Plaza; the space includes exhibition spaces, an auditorium, cafe areas and VIP lounges.
I am deeply honored that our firm will have the opportunity to design the national pavilion for Dubai Expo 2020, a project with national and global significance,” said Mr. Calatrava. “The final design will be a symbol of the UAE’s bold and daring spirit, reflected in what is poised to be the most inclusive and global Expo in history.
Construction begins in July 2017 and is expected to complete by the end of 2019.
