What is a Floor Joist?

By June 16 , 2016
  • Floor Joists are timber beams which run parallel to the walls and perpendicular to the beams to form the supportive framework for flooring.
  • The Floor Joists play a very important role in the subfloor as they carry the dead load of the flooring, dead load of the furniture, the impact and vibrations of people walking.
  • The Joists must be fixed properly and be closely spaced so that they can efficiently take all the loads and prevent bending, warping or sagging of the floor. High quality timber should be used for the joist as this helps in having a strong, durable level and even flooring.
