Laminate means a finished decorative material which is formed by bonding multiple layers of thin fabric , wood or paper with resins and then compressing it under heat. This process makes the laminate strong. They are an artificial man made decorative and aesthetically pleasing material that is pasted on surfaces to create interesting designs.

Use of Laminates

The main use of laminates is in the interior industry.

  • Laminates are used in indoor areas and not in the outdoor areas.
  • Laminates are available in various companies in several colors , designs and textures.The finish in which laminates are available are matte , wood textured , antique , high gloss, velvet , leather etc. to name a few. Laminated Wooden flooring is becoming very popular nowadays. They are also available in various colors and textures.
  • They are available mainly in two kinds of laminate mainly ‘High Pressure laminate’ and ‘cold pressure laminate’. High Pressure Laminates finds its use in carpentry, wall panels, furniture design. They are used in areas where durability and impact resistance is required. Low Pressure laminate is basically melamine .They are used in areas of low impact. Only a single sheet of laminate is applied on it.They are relatively cheaper than High Pressure Laminates but are not durable.
